On October 10, the people of Indy joined millions of people across 60 countries as we took part in the International Day of Action for Palestine. Together with the Middle Eastern Student Association – IUI, Jewish Voice for Peace – Indiana, ANSWER Indiana, and About Face, PSL Indianapolis held a speak out on Georgia St. while Ed Sheeran played the Lucas Oil stadium a few blocks away—without Macklemore and his original supporting acts.
The coordinated day of protests, called by the Palestinian Youth Movement and Global Alliance for Palestine, marked three years of the most brutal manifestation of the U.S.-Israeli genocide against the Palestinian people while highlighting how the steadfast resistance of the Palestinian people and the international solidarity movement have forever changed world politics.
Because so many people, locally and nationally, have become activated by the Palestinian struggle over the last three years, we wanted to take this occasion to provide some of the historical and geopolitical knowledge necessary for truly understanding the roots of the struggle and our role as peace activists in the U.S.
This special episode features a speech co-host Derek Ford delivered at a November 2023 PSL Indianapolis Liberation Forum. While the Forum took place less than a month after the heroic October 7 uprising and new and major developments have occurred since then, the background information provided is just as relevant today as it was at that time. Moreover, listeners can get a sense of the immediate response in this city and the remarkable pace of actions various groups and coalitions organized, some of which drew thousands of working and oppressed people into the streets.
