Ep. 36: IndyPL CEO Greg Hill Covers Up Sexual Harassment & Retaliation
On this important episode, library workers break the silence on the sexism, sexual harassment and assault, and retaliation that permeate the workplace culture in our “public” library system.
Guest-host Stephen Lane, formerly a library worker and union member, interviews an anonymous IndyPL library worker who has since quit about her and her colleagues’ direct experiences with former Pike Branch Manager Michael Jenkins. Joined also by library worker and AFSCME Local 3395 President Michael Torres, they discuss how complaints about sexual harassment were and are dismissed and mishandled from Human Resources to CEO Greg Hill (who got a $60,000 raise for the CEO position he never applied for this year). Those who have the courage to file grievances are merely shifted to other branches, leaving the problem intact. In the case of Jenkins, the issue was apparently “resolved” after he quit and moved across the country. While troubling, these brave testimonies and their fighting union make an urgent plea for listeners to reclaim the library and make it truly public.
